General Comments
The Toshiba SD-2800 is an excellent entry level DVD player, got mine for C$230(15% sales tax included). It has excellent audio and video quality that's on par w/ a sony DVPS300 and ahead of a panasonic rv32.
It has the full set of connections which a is really really nice feature. Component RGB(nice if you have a digital tv),S-Video and composite video outputs; and coaxial, optical, and analog audio outputs. The connections are really what sold me to this. The panasonic is missing the componentRGB video outputs which is definatly a must. (Even if you dont' have a digital tv at least if you get one in the future you don't need to dump ure dvd player.)And for audio, it has the optical which the sony is missing. Not a real big deal, but for an audiophile you kind of want it.
Lots of features for the itchy finger people, zoom feature is probably the nicest feature outta the bunch. Again though, DVD-R playback is luck of the draw. For me it's not a major setback since I do not deal w/ that many DVD-R's to begin with. For those who do however, you might wanna get something else..
