General Comments

After owing the Dyson DC05 for 3 years, the mains cable broke inside the machine. I elected to repair this myself and contacted Dyson for any information on spare parts, service instructions and special tools needed. Their reply was somewhat unhelpful!

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding your DC05 vacuum cleaner. I note your enquiry regarding replacement of the cable but must advise that Dyson Ltd are not able to release instructions on how to fit or access electrical components for use by customers either verbally or written for safety and liability reasons.

This also applies where a mechanical part requires removal or adjustment of an electrical component.
Dyson Ltd do not publish service manuals as these are designed to be used by Dyson Service engineers who are fully trained by Dyson.

I am sorry I am unable to be of assistance.

PS: I am a fully qualified electrical engineer and completed the repair without further problems.

    Could you let me know how to break into the machine please? I have done the same today (pulled cable loose inside the machine) & although we know how to fix it we can't get there. thanks!!

    Me too. The lead has come loose inside the machine....a DC04 ....the only problem being how to 'get at it'. Can anyone please give us a clue!!!

    I found this review helpful because... I am also having a problem with my Dyson DC05. Apart from the bad design of the plastic tube clips on all hoses that break after only months of use and cannot be replaced without buying the whole tube, it has now stopped working altogether and I suspect the cable being broken inside the main compartment which cannot be opened unless by a repairer. Dyson may have a great product for suction but this model certainly has its faults.
