Good Points

The build-quality is excellent, the metal case is a fantastic idea, and all of the ports are enclosed and protected.

Bad Points

Poor picture quality in most conditions and the fact that you have to keep closing the lens cover before you can view and delete pictures is a pain.

General Comments

The Olympus Mju-400 is a shocking release by one of the world\'s finest camera maufacturers. Olympus have managed to pull-off a fine looking camera aimed at the point and shoot brigade. The build quality is excellent, robust but small and all of the openings/ports are hidden away behind neat panels, but that\'s where its plus points end. The camera rarely takes pin-sharp pictures, perhaps 4 out of ten are just about acceptable but not great quality. You also have to close the lens cover before it\'s possible to view and delete pictures which can be rather annoying.

I own the Olympus mju400, and if the reviewer would like to read the manual he will find that if he double presses the arrow button he can view the shots WITHOUT closing the front cover. From here you can also press the menu button and delete the photo.

And yes, the picture quality can be poor if you do not choose the correct settings...go to a course, read the cd-rom manual and you will see how great this camera is!

You are obviously one of those men who never reads the instruction book because you think you know it all. This camera is made ten times better by the underwater casing you can buy, try the camera at 40 metres and it takes better pictures than an SLR.

Clearly, someone who THINKS that they are far too technically astute to bother to read an Operations Manual!!

Well, this bad review combined with all the other positive ones on this site merely convinced me to go and buy one this Morning. They are just going EOL, so mine was reduced to £174 in my local Currys. I have to say that I, like nearly all other reviewers commenting on this Product, am HIGHLY DELIGHTED!!

In the bad points section the reviewer states that you cannot delete/view pictures without closing the lens first. Had he read the instruction manual he would have found that pressing the play button twice in quick succession allows you to do exactly this. I hope this is of help to folk out there who would have been dissauded from buying what is essentially a great camera on this information.
Also, the lack of pinsharp pictures may be down to the incorrect quality setting or mode (eg landscape/portrait/etc)?

I have to say you cannot use or have a faulty camera. I have had my mju400 for around 9 mths and I can not find fault. I suggest that you are not using the auto focus correctly and when you say you have to close the lens cover to view the pictures taken, you dont. All you have to do to view the pics with the lens cover open it press the "Quick View" botton twice, located next to the bottom left hand corner of the screen on the back of the camera. I dont think you can be more wrong about the camera....

You don't have to close the lense to view or delete recently taken pictures.

Just double click the hide LCD screen button and the last picture taken can be viewed and deleted in the normal way for this camera.
