Catchy
Music for girls to dance to....
It's a bit taken with the current scene.
The Franz Ferdinand album does exactly what the band said they wanted it to do - it makes girls want to dance (well, at least this girl). The songs are catchy, immediate and perfect for putting on while getting ready for a night out or driving around in the car. At the moment, having only had the CD for a week, I'm really enjoying it.
On the other hand, the singles off the album so far - Darts of Pleasure and Take Me Out are by far the best tracks, which tends to suggest that this one might not outlive the scene it celebrates. Right now retro art-pop bands are ten a penny (Hot Hot Heat, Razorlight, Ordinary Boys, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, The Cribs, etc.) and while this is a great first album, the strength of the songwriting might not be enough considering the fierce competition from other acts who sound pretty much the same.
My advice? Buy the album, get the gig tickets and you won't be disappointed, you just might not be queuing up again in a years time.
