Good Points

Comprehensive program best suited to a small business.
Finally, Intuit allows you to apply specific credits to specific invoices - a major improvement.
One payment check can be applied to several "jobs" on one screen rather than having to figure out each job's portion and entering it on separate screens.
E-mail & fax invoices for faster payment.
Integrates with several software programs like Excel.

Bad Points

ANYTHING entered can be changed! Beware the dishonest bookkeeper!
Still has no feature for manufacturers to obtain a true cost-of-goods sold, i.e., a "bill of materials" for each inventory item.

General Comments

If you can buy the Intuit Quickbooks Pro 2002 program with rebates offered, it would bring the cost down to about $100 (if up-grading), a small price to pay for the many improvements in this version.

I've used many accounting software programs. QuickBooks, however, is my favorite for ease of use and friendly interface. I have used this software since version 4.0, so I'm very familiar with its many incarnations. Pro 2001 was not worth the cost, but Pro 2002 contains valuable features I mentioned under "Good points" that my co. needed.

It is not quite as user-friendly as it's touted, and for an accounting novice, there will be a significant learning curve as there would be with any program, but the "Help" section is comprehensive, plus you can always access Intuit's online Help & Support site. Just don't expect to install it for the first time and know what you're doing in 30 minutes!

This review is worthless in several ways. It takes no notice of what Quickbooks has become - a pipeline for continual advertisements from Intuit for "revenue enhancement". The review doesn't mention that the initial cost is only a small part of the overall cost of Quickbooks. For example, Intuit effectively turns off the payroll function unless helpless users pay a monthly ransom. Product support is outrageously expensive and is not offered unless the customer hands over a credit card number. There is open revolt against Intuit in almost every internet forum and review website. Somehow this worthless review has missed it all.
