General Comments

I've had the 2000 Honda 2.2 Accord Type-R for a month and every day has been a sheer delight, talk about finding excuses to take the car out; i find myself looking for things in the fridge that need replacing just so i can go for a blast to the shops.

The total drive experience in the Type-R is solid, everything feels where it should be and feels sturdy, you immediatly feel in control of the car, not the other way around.

On starting the car its actually disappointingly quite, it quietly purrs along; but then again man-eating Lions also purr! the momment you add some lead to your foot the type-r beast comes alive, the noise changes, the feedback from the wheels change, the whole car seems to drop and inch and close in around you. The second you hit that golden 6k rev mark, the sound of screaming banshees chasing scared villagers envelopes you and the accord takes off, its a feeling only driving this maniac can explain. All along you feel very safe, in control and inspired!

needless to say its great fun, feels very secure, under the 6k rev mark its a nippy family car, once past the number 6 and its a 666 speed demon! the car looks great but not overly hyped like the Evo or subaru. Its like a grown ups boy racer, and how those young jaws drop when u leave them buried in rubber!! :) wweeeeeheeee little playaz, the big dog is in town grrrr!!..

I love it, but as much of punch it packs on the road, it throws a little jab occasionally at your pocket too! running costs can be expensive if u enjoy the speedier side of type-r, but reasonble on the sensible side of the rev meter.. Also the windows tend to steam up on wet days but i can live with it!. I definatly feel like i made the right choice buying this car.

Nicely made point mate wish there a few more people out there to put the Accord Type R on the map. I have a 2000 black accord type R but do you know anywhere I can get any tuning goodies from they always supply for the civic and prelude and so on but not for ours any tips would be gratefully received cheers

p.s have you had yours flat out yet? ive had mine at 145mph but had to slow down it was still GOING!!!

    Hi Buddy.

i've had it to 140mph but I bottled it after that because it felt a bit too safe with plenty of revage to go, the thought if 150mph was a bit too much for my tender nerves :)

I believe there are chips and mods available to boost up the performance of teh accord. you can get a particulr type of fuel filter that smooths our the power and increases BHP and fuel economy. Theres the the VTI timer which is a little stereo type device, with a turn of a knob you can lower the rev limit where the VTI kicks in. So you get the VTI to set off at 3k like turbo cars. Adding some slick 50 to your oil makes an amazing difference. Theres a chip that unrestricts the rev limiter from 8k to 10k (awsome).

Theres a place in Leeds called motorsport UK or something that can get all the goodies for the Accord Type R. But they aint cheap!

    keep it revvin.

P.s I raced an Integra typeR and gave a good run for his money, he had me off the mark but I caught him very quickly on a str8 :)

    hi,
i picked up a couple of stainless back-boxes on US Ebay for around £40, £80 including post & packing. There were plenty of suitable exhausts available with different finishes (3", 4", twin tail, etc) or full cat back systems for great prices. A local specialist took £95 to fit my 2 boxes, which have 3.5" outlets and look excellent.

OK I`m a big Honda fan and have been eyeing the Type R up now for a good couple of years. I`m planning to buy one early 2005 but my problem is convincing the wife that we don`t need an estate.
If anyone has any brainwashing ideas or remedies for estate sickness please let me know.

I've had my red accord type-r for 3 years and I thoroughly enjoy every journey in the car, although I'd love a bit more speed preferably on a par with the scoobies!

I contacted Honda to see if they're going to release a newer, faster model but their answer was no :-(

I also hunted around for some mods to boost the speed/power but only found one company hyeline.com who quoted well over £2500 for only a 20Bhp increase.

We need a decent web site/forum to share our findings, ideas, etc. Anybody know one?

You will find that the Type R can match a Scooby once its in vtec mode, when the scoobies turbo lags out you'll will be well gone in the accord, as for handling, the accord type r is renown for having more grip on the extreme cornering than a Scooby.

The accord R also has a nifty handling system that kicks in on extreme cornering, but you can only experience this with genuine brass balls driving.. find a good open roundabout and go for it, you'll find that when you thinks it’s about to go; it’s actually grips down and corners harder (only work in the dry), something I believe is called a YORK system.

I also recently installed a Mugen induction kit which was very difficult to get hold off for the accord! it made the induction note sound very sweet, and some how unrestricted the revs, and it did give a notable kick to the car, but alas the noise was too much for my mrs, and me driving around at warp factor 9 and saying 'engage' when at red lights, sliding off at a roundabout (after putting tire shine on my wheels in the wet Doh!), and grinding my brakes down to the pins was all too much :) but the main factor was that the air is currently too cold for the intake system and actually began to slow the car down, so I’ve taken it off for the winter.

As for other mods there is a fuel pump thingumybob that increases the fuel going into the system and gives you extra bhp for under £80, there also a chip that carries the same function for less than £50, but with both you have to have your car sports tuned for best results.

Personally I find the Honda accord type r best as standard, after all the effort made by Honda, I’m sure that they could have squeezed out plenty more BHP if they wanted too, I also think that 200BHP from a front wheel drive car is enough, anymore and it just becomes dangerous.

with some good driving and brass balls you'll certainly give any Scooby a run for its money, yes he'll have you off the mark, but where’s he going to go between 75-140mph, I’ll tell you where he’s going, NOooooWHeeeERE!!

I've just purchased my type r last night, and I must say all the hype was true. Its a great car, has all the creature comforts one needs, yet still has the cool factor that gets the girls purring (dont tell the wife).
