Bosch SHY66C06UC - In Oct., 2003, I decided to replace my 20 year old Kitchen Aid Superba (it had dispenser problems and just didn't seem to be getting the dishes as clean as I would like). I did research and opted to replace it with another KA Superba (even though I was warned by a repairman that the new models just didn't live up to the old one). I chose the Superba, anyway.
I was somewhat happy with it, but, it still did not seem to clean much better than the 20 year old one. Plus, the console stuck out so far from the counter that an adjacent drawer could not be opened. Thus, back it went to the retailer for a different model with less depth.
Since I have a friend that has a Bosch (different model than the one I chose) and she loved its performance, I chose the Bosch SHY66C06UC -- even though it was several hundred dollars more and was not in stock and I had to wait for its arrival a couple of weeks or so. It arrived on November 21st, 2003. It fit perfectly. It was so quiet I had to put my ear up against the machine to see if it was really running. Well...60 days later I had a surprise -- it quit working completely. Thus, back to the retailer.
Since I thought this was a "fluke", I replaced the defective machine with a like model. It arrived on January 21, 2004. Thus, I'm now on machine #3. Now, we are at February 21, 2004 -- and, once again, the machine completely failed. In both instances the ONLY thing that remained functional was the count down timer -- and, boy, did it count down. It started at a higher time then it ever did. Both times the machine did not wash, and the motor would NOT run. Thus, back to the retailer (again). This time, the retailer did not have the brand I had decided upon (Miele #894SCI), so a refund was given (and, I must say with no trouble). Thus, machine #4 will shortly be here -I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.
Apparently, this is a common problem since when I initially purchased the machine there was a "used" one on the floor. The salesperson would not comment why it was there -- I just assumed it probably was returned as someone may have just not liked it or had a "fit" problem. Then in speaking with my Sister I was told one of her friends had the same experience with a Bosch (think the same model as I had) -- it gave out after 30 days. This was even before the 2nd Bosch gave out -- I trusted the performance based on the price (even though other consumer reporting agencies had negative reports about the repair frequency of that brand).
Thus, in conclusion, I would say -- stay away from a Bosch.
