General Comments

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth is the best damn car I've ever had. It does get a lot of attention, always from blokes unfortunately!

It's a very practical car - hatchback - so can carry a lot of stuff.

Go for an early turbo (92-94) model with leather and aircon and it will hold its value forever. Only 2500 built and prices are only going one way - up!

In standard 227bhp form it's fast but not so driveable. I've got a 380bhp GGR conversion which is incredible. 0-60 in 4 secs 1/4 mile sub 13 secs.

At the limit this car shows its true rally credentials with every part in total balance and it makes the weekly supermarket shop that little bit more exciting!

Check 3rd gear isn't noisey as this goes first if previous owners have been trying 4 wheel burnouts.

gearbox is reliable if you don't drop the clutch in first.

Head Gaskets can be a problem with high boost so get cometic gasket with GGR headbolts.

The looks haven't aged in 10+ years... the only problem is the kind of attention you get is from guys in baseball caps. If you want the car for female attention get an MR2 or Audi TT.

If you want an absolute classic that even Jeremy Clarkson says is the best car he ever had then get an Escort Cosworth.

    get an mr2 turbo, gets female attention and be faster! 0-60 5.2 155mph standard for MR2 0-60 5.7 138 mph standard for the escort. You can get a 5 year old Impreza STI (300bhp) for the price of a 14 year old 227bhp escort cossie. Why on earth would you buy one????
