General Comments

I have recently purchased a Cometa Fenix 400 .22 and it is a great gun. I got a deal done which also included a quality Korean scope fitted onto some well made local optic ramps/bindings.
I should state now that I am not going to be reveiwing this gun as an off-hand shooter who couldn't care less about his equiptment. (Keep this in mind if you are just a casul shooter)
Only the best pellets are worth shooting through high powered, primarily hunting air rifles like the cometa 400. I primarily use H & N pellets cause of their quality, simple designs and weight. You must have weight.
Usually I have my scope sighted out to precisely 20 metres giving my self sufficient range as well as not presuming that the gun is a 303.
I use this gun as a hunting rifle for primarily small game, (rabbits etc) and I also pursue the underused aspect of air rifle shooting, being spotlighting.
The Cometa 400 in .22 easily passes all the test that I give it, out to a clean rabbit kill not long ago out to about 32/33 metres.
I feel that this gun is heavily under priced for its quality and alround shooting capabilities, though as I have prviously stated it should be looked after and not just ignored as a simple 'sluggy'.

    Dear Rockstar

I am intent to buy an air rifle in 0.22 cal. I already had a Gamo Hunter 440 in 0.177 cal.

Do You have any suggestion between Cometa Fenix 400 and Gamo CFX.

I already know that the CFX is a fixed barrel rifle and maybe because this more accurate, but with Your experience, what is Your suggestion.

Do You have any information about the pellet speed of Your Cometa Fenix 400?
I have read somewhere that the Gamo CFX doesn’t reach the speed they promise.

    Many thanks,
    Dan

    Dan,
I am not that familiar with the CFX, though just because it is a fixed barrel (I presume you mean not a break barrel) does not exactly mean that it would have superior accuracy. Sure if the break barrel gun you were looking at was poorly made or designed then perhaps this would be the case but with the Fenix 400 I think not.
As I have said, my Cometa is a pure hunting rifle which has been toyed with to make it ideal for me while hunting. I usually shoot H & N Diablo domes which at last test were shooting at about 880fps which isn’t bad for a .22 hunter.
The Fenix 400 .22 is a hard hitting gun which does causes two aspects of the gun to become apparent when it is used. 1. it weighs 3.4 without a scope which could be a little heavy for some. 2. it does have slight recoil on firing.
The gun does lend itself to a shooter who is willing to put in a little time to get used to it.
    I hope this helps you,
    Rockstar

    Dear Rockstar

I have it! Yes You are right. It is very nice, powerful, accurate...

Now the scope. I am intent to put on the Gamo MD4-12x44AO, with the Diana (RWS) 1" in one piece scope mount.
Do You suggest mi that I will mount behind of the scope mount Diana(RWS) also the mount shock absorber (amortizeur) to prevent the damage of the scope. I seen that the Fenix has big recoil, but I don’t want to break a scope and the shock absorber will do the right job. What do You mean?
Do You have this absorber on Your Fenix?

Many thanks and enjoy Your Fenix like me,
    Dan

I have both a Gamo CF-30 (.22) and a Cometa 400S Fenix (.22). The CF-30 is basically a wood stocked version of the CFX. Both are good value for money air rifles, but I think the Cometa edges out the Gamo for power and accuracy.
With Gamo Match pellets (14.2 grains) the muzzle velocities (chronographed) are Gamo 675 fps, and Cometa 790 fps. 25 metre groups are around 20mm for both but I have to work harder with the Gamo to achieve this due to the creepy trigger. Off a benchrest both can shoot similar groups, but when hunting and shooting offhand the Cometa trigger shines through.
The Cometa 400S comes factory fitted with a sound moderator (PC for silencer). When fitted it seems to have more effect on the mechanical discharge noise, rather than the muzzle report, but makes the Cometa 400S smoother to shoot than the Gamo CF-30.
Anyway that’s my ten cents worth. Good luck with your purchase.
