Good Points
Reliable, great print quality, availabilty of Drum/toner cartridges widely available even after 5 years.
Bad Points
None. I also had the multiple sheet feed after 4 years of use, BUT it is VERY easy to fix. A simple kit containing a new feed roller and sheet separator (rubber strip) is all that is required.
General Comments
This Hewlett Packard Laserjet 5L is a fantastic home/small office printer. The detail is excellent when doing fine print details, such as printed circuit board traces onto transparencies. It's not lightspeed fast, but so what, I use it as it was intended. If you develop the multi-sheet feed problem, just get the replacement kit from fixyourownprinter.com. It's much cheaper than getting a new printer, and the printer feeds like a champ, as good as new. No more multi feeds.
I guess after so many years, the rubber strip sheet separator becomes firm and slippery, allowing multisheet feeds. Also try to stretch the tension spring under the sheet separator - it can get you by for several months before needing the kit.
In conclusion, any printer that lasts 5 years (and still going) is pretty darn good! Hopefully, my Photosmart P1100 wears as well!
