Good Points

Smooth shooting behavior, Rekord trigger, likes many pellet types. Unique caliber, nice finishing, low price tag, light weight, and extreme verstility.

Bad Points

Poor wood qaulity on stock, lower fps in this caliber, lack of scope stop.

General Comments

The Beeman R9 is one of the best budget-priced magnum airguns produced in recent years. It has power, versatility, excellent accuracy and light weight. Beeman definitely has a good field gun here. It features the famous Rekord trigger, which allows for smooth shooting right of the box. It also features an ambidexterous stock, and safety, as well as a qaulity barrel lock. The R9 is probably my favorite airgun in .20 caliber. It offers light weight, and long-range accuracy for pest control and hunting. If you do get the .20 caliber, it might be wise to have a tune done on it, as the velocity is a bit low for this caliber. I consider it to be Beemans best all-around magnum airsporter.

lag of scope stop? which gun comes with a scope stop? lower velocity in .20 ? well use your head, thats somehow clear. you think other guns have higher velocity with heavier caliber?

Solid review fellow granite-stater! I know exactly what you're talking about. Isn't it ironic how they can make such nice airguns, and yet be such complete trash personally? Well, that's why we have World Wars I guess.

CP's are tight fitting in every .20 R-9 I have ever handled. The B/S diablos same weight and better than 50fps more velocity. The .20 Is better than .177 if for no other reason that the pellets are easier to handle. The .20 is a perfect match in the R-9 BTW besides junk like a gamo what rifle comes with a scope stop?

Beeman has pushed the marketing ot the .20 caliber because they are one of the few that carry it. They also happen to be one of the rare sources (in the U.S.) of this caliber of pellet. They make more money this way. You get an air rifle with less velocity than the .177,and less knock-down power than a similar air rifle in .22 caliber. Also, your pellets will be harder to find and will cost more when you do find them. All this makes the .20 caliber good for Beeman but bad for you.

Sheridan started the .20 ca. Robert Beeman recognized that it was a good compromise between both .177 and .22. It hits almost as hard as the .22 with a flatter trajectory and accuracy approching the .177. The pellet issue you raised is valid only because other manufacturers are selling so many .177 and .22 that they feel no need to rebarrel their guns to .20 cal which would involve more startup expenses and marketing costs. The sun will rise and set no matter what caliber you have, but if one caliber is your only choice the the .20 is a wise decision.
