“we always go to west coast on the isle of mull and...”

written by a smart on 12/04/2008

Good Points
the over all look of the awning is very good plenty of space which is why we decided to buy it. it was 349 with 61.20 vat total cost 410 90. Which we felt was a bit more than we could afford but when we saw it up we were very pleased with it.

General Comments
we always go to west coast on the isle of mull and have done so for the last 30 years, so the putting up and taking it down again was not new to us. we got the awning on thursday 27th march 2008 and put it up on monday 31st march. it was a loverly day and the awning looked great. we went out for a meal, and went to bed arround 11 pm. we awoke at 1am to hear a wind and rain. we were not bothered about it because our older awning often went through force 10 wind and rain and the awning has never ever shifted. as it was a new awrning we looked outside. the awning ripped away from the connectors on the side of the caravan and quickly demolished. as my husband as angina we both went out pulled the awning away from the caravan and went inside again. we put heavy water bottles over the awning until the morning. we were awake all night. at day break we went out and surveyed the damage. all the connecters on the poles were completely broken. some poles were not there at all they had come off the connector completely. we came home. I phoned Towsure and they were not interested. as the damage was due to wind , he said they would not help us or give any money back. we were left with using the awning for 3 hours all 410 of it. I rang trading standards and although they were suprised at the total lack of customer care, said that the wind clause is one that some of the retailers like to rely on, and asked if they asked if we needed a storm set when ordering the awning. I said no they had not. we are left with nothing. I feel it is obviously easy money for these people. if you get an awning dont forget to keep taking it down in case a wind starts to blow, or like us you will have nothing. the manager Peter doyle did not even have the decency to write or any offer of help what so ever. I will never buy anything from them ever again.
I feel that there should be a governing body to make sure these tent / awning peopl are abiding by a set of standards. and not able to make money out of this sort of problem. when it happens, there is no one to sort it out. we are both in our 50's and money does not come easy. I am bitterly dissapointed with the company and them saying it is only a cheap awning makes me feel totally alone. in my opinion the tent poles are not able to withstand wind not just gale force but any strong wind and needs some inspection. Personally I would not buy this product
If my money had been refunded I would pitch a different company.
