I had been a tescos car insurance customer for the past 4 years. When my renewal date came around my quote was double what I had been paying. I am over 25, 4 years no claims and a current customer and yet they could not offer me a competitive quote. I decided to cancel my policy and take out insurance elsewhere. I was told over the phone, that my policy was cancelled, only for 2 weeks later to receive a letter through the post thanking me for renewing my policy. I rang them again and had to re-cancel my policy...At the same time I checked there was nothing outstanding on my account, which there wasn't. A further 2 weeks later I then got a letter saying my last payment had not been received. I made a complaint to the complaints team who told me they would look into it. Heard nothing, only to receive another letter several weeks later demanding payment so I made another enquiry only to be told that the underwriters of the insurance had changed and so tescos car insurance system couldn't talk to the underwriters, again my complaint and request of an investiagtion fell on dead ears. In the meantime my new insurance company told me that Tescos would not confirm my no claims discount and that they would need to cancel the new policy unless it was resolved. I ended up paying money I did not owe just for the sake of argument, so that I can have insurance. More than 2 months after my initial complaint (and after I paid the sum they requested) I had a phone call saying they would look into the matter if I was not happy. I asked if the outcome would be me getting my money back and they said they could not guarantee that. Customers services are very unhelpful and rude, and I would not use Tesco's car insurance again.
