Good Points
Loads of power
Low maintenance.
Built like a tank.
Loads of bottom end grunt.
Great looking.

Bad Points
Not great if your stuck on a hill. Kick start only - although you can buy electric start kits at approx. £850.

General Comments
Wow! I love my 2004 Honda XR400R! The engine has loads of power, I can wheely off the throttle in first and second gear! I've had a white brothers exhaust fitted and it sounds even better, it's nice and quiet when your just pottering around, then when you wind her back, it roars like nothing I've ever heard before!

I bought this bike because I wanted a low maintenance bike, I thought it wouldn't be as quick as my mate's CCM/DRZ, but it actually has more power and loads more bottom end grunt! The build quality is typical of Honda, its built like a tank!

I'm 6ft and weigh 80kg (12.5 stone) other than the exhaust i've added bar raisers (better riding position when stood up), Renthal fat bars (a bit stronger than standard), a CRD 4mil bash plate (save my engine from those big rocks!) and I've just stiffened up the rear suspension by turning the spring as it felt a little too soft for jumping.

I'm also getting a DHH Arerbis twin headlight and Acerbis fork socks just to update the front (I think this just freshens it up!).

I've rode both my mates CCM 00DS and DRZ400E and they just seem so uncomfortable to ride, also they seem more sluggish and my mate who has the DRZ has had it in the garage more times than I've had a pint of lager!

Now my mate has just sold his CCM and bought an 2005 XR400R!

At first i wanted a race bike maybe a KTM525EXC, but I looked around and spent a lot of time reading reviews and talking to loads of people about what bike to get, I didn't want to be fixing my bike every weekend and didn't want to spend loads of money maintaining it, but at the same time I wanted plenty of power. For me this is the perfect bike, you get so much fun without all the hassle of a race bike and it still goes like crazy!

I love my XR, its my pride and joy.
