“We chose a Nissan X-Trail 2.0 SE+ because we thought...”

Good Points
Good points? It drives smoothly, like a big car rather than a traditional 4x4. Great interior - practical and stylish. Mine looks lovely with the privacy glass, chrome side steps and spoiler. ENjoyable ride - roomy with nice touches.

Bad Points
Let us down badly. Cost over £1000 in repairs in the last 3 months alone.
There was apparently a fault on the exhaust manifold with my model, and they should have all been recalled. Unfortunately the dealership that I bought from went bust right about the time of the recall - so they marked the car as being recalled and never changed the part. Needless to say the part broke down and has cost - to date £400. The new Nissan Dealers that have taken over have said although they can see it has never been renewed - it's not their problem.

The wheel bearings have also gone on the front - which also meant the hubs needed replacing.

The engine light came on last year to the tune of £300, and it is on again now - car is in as I write this. It is either a new exhaust manifold £500/600 or an engine rebuild which they say will cost around £3000 - £4000. It has been one thing after the other for the past 12 months.

General Comments
We chose a Nissan X-Trail 2.0 SE+ because we thought they were reliable - we could not have been more wrong. To have to replace brakes all round, wheel bearings x 2, hubs x 2, exhaust manifold ,, exhaust backbox, rear wiper motor (twice) ABS sensor lead (£236!!!!), some sort of sensor on the catalytic convertor - all within the last 12 months has been a financial nightmare.

Great looking car - but I really would not recommend it. We have loved driving it as it is a pleasure when it's all OK, but it will bleed you dry when it goes wrong. Parts are very expensive and we have found our particular dealer really unhelpful. We have also found it quite heavy on petrol. Shame.
