“Absurd behaviour by delivery driver”

The vehicle had large stickers on the sides saying "TopRentACar". This form of very prominent rental company identification can in some markets encourage theft attempts on the car's contents. Criminals assume substantial money and valuables may be kept in vehicles by holidaymaking car renters. When I pointed this out as I took receipt of the car, the delivery driver said "You are insulting my country by suggesting there may be such crimes here. I have the right to stop the contract now". Clearly I needed the car so did not terminate the contract but felt profoundly insulted. I have known and liked Bulgaria and Bulgarians for 40+ years - and indeed have both worked there and raised substantial sums for Bulgarian charities here in London - and have never encountered anything like this. There can be vehicle theft crimes anywhere and my observation was a reasonable one. The website marketing photo did not show these large advertisements on the car. I would almost certainly not hire from the company again unless I had before then some kind of apology and compensation offer.
