I bought four swivel, arm-chairs from SCS and, recently, one of the twenty legs snapped. I took it back to the shop and was told that, even though it was out of warrantee, I need not worry because it was covered by a five-year structural guarantee, and a five-year ‘Duty of Care to the Customer’ agreement. Although the shop were not able to help, they assured me that their head office would put the matter right.
On contacting SCS head office, I was disappointed to discover that they had their own definitions of ‘guarantee’ and ‘agreement’; which differed from mine (and everyone else I have since spoken to). It was pointed out to me that chair legs are not part of the structure, but merely accessories. Also, ‘Duty of Customer Care’ simply means helping if we can. The only help they could offer was to suggest I try to repair the broken leg with super-glue.
