“High School Special in Galapagos”

I just completed the High School special of Care and Community programme and can honestly say that it was incredible! From the minute I was picked up at the airport I was made to feel welcome by the staff at Projects Abroad as well as the other volunteers. My volunteer advisor had prepared me so well for the trip and I was given lots of information and advice if I needed it, which calmed my nerves tremendously.

When I arrived, my host family were very welcoming and after a little orientation from a member if staff, I was immediately playing football with my host brother- which was a perfect ice-breaker! I was staying with a volunteer from my High School Special (HSS) and another volunteer who was doing general volunteering. We bonded brilliantly through all the activities such as sports night and salsa (which was one of my highlights). I also made a little "family" with my fellow volunteers, who helped make my time there even more special.

I would definitely recommend Projects Abroad to everyone, and especially the HSS to anyone traveling alone for the first time.
