My elderly parents took out cover with Insure and Go, paying extra to cover both of their existing medical conditions. Earlier this year they had to cancel a cruise due to my mum taking ill before they were due to travel. The Doctor was investigating a cough she had recently developed and had referred her to the hospital. She was advised not to travel not that she felt up to it anyway and had to cancel her planned cruise. When she contacted Insure and Go they were more interested in whether or not she had paid by credit card presumably so she could try to claim the credit companies insurance. She informed them that she had paid cash and provided a letter from her GP. They soon wrote back and told her that they could not pay out as she had not declared an existing respiratory condition. I wrote to them enclosing a letter from her doctor informing them that she has not been diagnosed with a respiratory condition and that my next step would be to contact the insurance ombudsman. Fortunately she received a cheque for most of the amount claimed. I hate to think what would have happened if she had taken ill while travelling. Would they have refused to pay out then too?
