During our time there, we observed in several different types of hotels and got to see a variety of surgeries between the volunteers, such as heart, eye, nose, etc. Although most of us could barely speak Mongolian, the doctors, nurses, and even people on the road were incredibly nice towards us. We also visited a homeless shelter and orphanage, both which were incredibly rewarding.
Aside from the medical factors, the group also had fun together, visiting local tourist spots. We watched a Mongolian performance, and hiked up mountain to see the view of Ulan Bator.
The part that was hardest to handle was probably the food. Mongolians eat a lot of lamb, and while it wasn't terrible, we were not used to it. However, it was manageable and it was good to be immersed in the culture of the Mongolians.
Overall, the trip helped me learn a lot and made many friends from all over the world. People of different cultures and background all came together and mixed. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
