“An experience as unique as it is 5-star”

written by Alanne37 on 07/07/2017

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Sunborn Gibraltar. We do a lot of research to get it right and I have to say Sunborn was exactly as expected and really is a superb environment and just what we wanted - luxury, modern, lovely décor, spotless rooms, glass chrome and doors throughout but being seen to be regularly polished up to keep the yacht immaculate. It really is five star as well as being AA 5-star rated. We had a complimentary upgrade to a Junior suite which will have definitely spoiled us for any return visit as we would want to repeat the experience! The attention to detail and effort that has gone into the suite design and facilities is faultless and far too much to mention here. We had asked if it might be possible to have a runway view as this was an anniversary/birthday celebration for the four of us so we had windows on 2 sides of a corner suite as well as a lovely terrace facing the marina development. As we had such a lovely terrace we had lunch there, sitting on the sofa whilst there was also a glass table and chairs. There were flower troughs which made the balcony private from the marina. We loved watching the planes take off and land as well as watching the boats in the harbour. We had exactly the same view in the evening where we chose to eat at La Sala restaurant, which we did again the next evening having realised that prices were little different than those charged in the restaurants bistros and chains around Ocean village. With the added value of views, a lovely environment, air conditioning and a 5-star experience. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We would certainly not bother to look elsewhere to eat if we came again as it was an easy night out in lovely surroundings with lots of choice where service was excellent. Staff supervision was clear with cleaning staff obviously being well-lead, and nightly calls to see if anything was needed, no need to ring up for stocks. We locked ourselves out once and also had a minor maintenance issue. On both occasions maintenance staff visited within minutes despite our being on the 5th floor. Staff were always customer aware, moving to one side in the corridors to let you pass or turning off hoovers, and the plates in the restaurant were cleared constantly as you finished as the staff had their eye on the ball whilst being unobtrusive. It was truly a luxury experience. The only downside as I have seen elsewhere is that on one of the days the 7th floor was let out for a function, and thus anyone who wished to use the Sky bar, restaurant, pool area and Aquabar was not able to do so. Had we wanted to make full use of the yacht there would have been little else available to us to relax. Residents have to come first when they have paid for the facilities and were not aware on booking. However I can see the difficulties when local people and companies want to pay to make use of this glorious upmarket and very different experience, as we would if it was available to us.
