I work for a Post Office banking call centre and can honestly say that the savings section has been in a mess for months. It's true that there is a 'computer says no' attitude for much of the staff and it's not great pay (less than £6/hour) Pay peanuts and you'll get a fair few monkeys sadly.
The Post Office procedure for opening the Online Saver is severely flawed. It takes two weeks for an initial deposit to go through into the account (even though it is taken from your account straight away) which certainly loses you interest. It also takes 3-5 working days for any transactions in thereafter... (assuming then that in that time the Post Office is still earning from the slow process.
I take calls every day regarding mistakes from back the Post Office back office team who (as a team) never fail to botch a hundred or so account applications per day. I wouldn't bank with the Post Office.
