“I started shooting with air rifles when I was younger....”

written by Gus. on 03/04/2003

Good Points
Very powerfull, easy to cock due to its cocking mechanism, great looks, light weight and very accurate.

Bad Points
The original bowstrings just last for about 70 shots( luckily I found a way to make the strings virtualy indestructable). The original arrows bend after aprox. 5 shots( so now I just make my own arrows that last a lot longer).

General Comments
I started shooting with air rifles when I was younger. I still do. But last year I purchased a Barnett commando 2 compound x-bow for 370 euros, and I was instantly surprised by its power. High powered air rifles are nothing compared to crossbows.

The draw weight of my commando 2 is 175lb, but due to its cocking mechanism, this is an easy task. I mounted a HAKKO panorama MK3 multi reticle sight on the mounting rail. Thanks to the MK3 I can shoot tight groups at 60 meters. I can even shoot accuratly in low light situations, and I can aquire a target witin a few seconds. The great thing about crossbows is that you can make your own arrows. I've experimented with short arrows that hold a teflon coated sub projectile within the actual arrow. The penetration was unbelievable! I've also tried arrows that hold buckshot in the arrowhead. There are loads of different arrow types you can make by yourself, so that's also a good thing about x-bows. If you're thinking of buying a crossbow, you should consider the Barnett commando 2 compound crossbow.
