Good Points
Very cheap, lots of features and "freebies" thrown in.
Bad Points
The worst technical and customer support/service I've personally ever experienced. The 1st level support is outsourced to the Philippines as far as I am aware, and the server guys are in the US or Germany in my opinion.
General Comments
After shutting down one of my servers for the sending a subscribed customer newsletter I tried to get through to someone to rectify the problem. As far as I am concerned it took 2 days before I was able to get a response from the server department. The level 1 support was unhelpful in my opinion.
I would never use 1and1 again. Snazzy full page ads in the press but possibly the worst customer service I've ever received! I do not recommend www.1and1.co.uk.
