“Before I start my review of the Pontiac 1970 Firebird...”

written by RamAirThree on 25/07/2005

Good Points
An awesome killer attitude Firebird that gives the gift of not having to fear any other vehicle on the road. When the dual exhaust sing you cannot help but notice the look from other enthusiasts in awe stricken disbelief that the car is not your common F-body. I love the looks, the performance, the feel... enough to be restoring one myself. One thing about this car is the fact of owning a piece of history in a "Pony Car" that kicks butt like a true Muscle car but yet still adds even more flavor, because the car is no slouch on the highway aswell. This in my opinion, is one of the all time Pontiac greats that did not get all the prestige and recognition it deserved. If any Firebird deserved the right to the name "Banshee"...... it was without a doubt the 1970 Ram Air III Formula 400.

Bad Points
The lust it promotes to slam the pedal to the floor.

General Comments
Before I start my review of the Pontiac 1970 Firebird Formula Ram Air III I'd like to explain that I have 27 years experience with muscle cars. This is a car that should be considered the missing link in the Muscle/Pony car era. Never was a car so well at performing at both sides of the fence then the 1970 Formula 400 True Ram Airs.

I have owned and restored many Muscle and Pony cars in my 37 years of life and I am yet to find a car that can give so much in one package. If you are into adrenaline rushes and cruising at the same time, then this is the car you have got to experience. Many people say it is power off the line or it is top end handling, YOU CANNOT HAVE BOTH ...... I say they never tried driving a 70 Formula 400 RA III to prove that myth false.
