“Booked non smoking rooms in 2 hotels. Agoda booked smoking”

I booked non smoking rooms in 2 separate hotels for a recent Japan trip. This was a confirmed booking not a request.
It was obvious at the first hotel the room was a smoking room and although cleaned the furnishings smelt of smoke. Checking with reception Agoda had requested a smoking room. Luckily the hotel managed to find an upgrade to a non smoking room for the remaining 3 nights.
Our room at the second hotel was on the only smoking floor at the hotel. A visit to reception drew a blank. AGODA had again requested smoking rooms as the hotel was full we had no choice but to stay,
For this reason I would not book through Agoda again
