“If you don't want this camera for sports or action...”

Written on: 17/10/2008

Good Points
Based on Nikon D200 so uses all Nikon mount lenses.
Excellent colour and white balance.
Excellent dynamic range.
Easy(ish) to use as long as you can keep away from the menu system...

Bad Points
Different batteries to Nikons so harder to find.
Only 6MP - the 12MP figure is interpolated from 6 million S and 6 million R sensors, each of which forms one single pixel.
Only 3 fps on continuous (D200 does 5 fps).
Menus a bit 'awkward' and counter intuitive.

General Comments
If you don't want this camera for sports or action photography then its brilliant. For weddings, portraits, landscapes and the likes it is simply fantastic (I have a D3 and find the S5 to be better at getting white balance right and prefer the S5 colours too).

Now if only Fuji could get the colour and image quality into a D3 speed body with a true 12MP...
