The CBR1000F-N I own was my first litre bike and a step up towards something newer. Having recently been on several test rides on many of the latest bikes as a Blackbird, Hayabusa, XJR1300 and Sprint 1050, i still haven't bitten the bullet and sold mine and bought a new one, the reason... well it simply just isn't worth it. None of the above machines were that much better to command a £9000 price tag whilst selling mine as a trade in for no more than the £500 most dealers would offer it they would take it at all. OK a new hayabusa is a great machine...i didn't want to give it back! but while mine still moves along there is no way i'm selling it for peanuts, i intend to keep it until it dies. I can't recommend them highly enough, mine is a very tidy example with a few tasteful modifications and bills running up to £3000 but most of that was my personal choice to renew things that either looked a little old or not been changed for a while. Only failures to mention over 5 years and 40,000 miles have been 2 batteries, 1 regulator/rectifier and plently of consumables such as brake pads, discs and tyres but then again i cream along most A roads given the right conditions. The chain and sprockets have only been changed last week and have lasted 5 years. I have had the fairing resprayed in factory colours to keep her looking factory fresh and to my amazement under the fairing looked like new, a testament to the superb build quality.

I regularly go on days out with friends who ride newer, faster litre bikes but the trusty CBR will hold its own especially when you understand the weight and relatively slow steering (by modern standards) and just take her by the bars and go for it. A couldn't rate mine highly enough, recommend a K&N Air filter and Scorpion can and like i did when the brake hoses get on a bit a full set of braided hoses are well worth the £80. Go on you don't know what your missing...try a Honda legend!!
