I bought this monitor after trying a BT monitor which was 10 times the price and, for me, the Tixylix monitor wins hands down. The range of the BT product was very poor - we have thick walls - and at times it seemed to have a mind of its own, often muting itself for no obvious reason (no explanation in the manual!). The Tixylix is very basic - only 2 frequencies, so best if there aren't too many other babies on the block - but the range is excellent, it is very easy to set up and the microphone is very sensitive. Used with the mains adaptors there is a certain amount of hum (I haven't tried battery power yet), but I find with such a sensitive mic that I use it mostly with the volume turned well down, which makes the hum quite unobtrusive.
There are more sophisticated products out there, but at the price (£10 at Lloyds Pharmacy) there's nothing to beat it.
