“The computerised water usage system on my Waterside...

Written on: 28/07/2008 by willp (1 review written)

Good Points
It looks OK, it's small, and it didn't use much salt, possibly because it didn't work properly most of the time.

Bad Points
Computerised part of this softener broke after 3 months.

General Comments
The computerised water usage system on my Waterside MC350 gave up after 3 months so regeneration had to be turned on manually, negating the whole point of the computerisation. After a year it started switching itself on at random, wouldn't turn off, the drainage system didn't work, and only the overflow prevented a major flood. The display disappeared so the whole thing couldn't be programmed - i.e. you couldn't set the clock or the water hardness or manually regenerate. Put simply, it was useless.

And yes, the head leaked, so water flowed towards the computerised control panel; perhaps that's why it stopped working. Faced with all this, I contacted a local provider and servicer of softeners. They could not help because Waterside softeners have to be serviced and spares, etc., provided by Culligan, who own Waterside (all at high cost, need I add). The outcome? This local provider is booked to replace the existing head with a Fleck system, and I'm contacting the local Trading Standards Department regarding the Sale of Goods Act.
