“The secret to these hybrid irons is to hit down and...”

written by joe griffiths on 26/06/2007

Good Points
Beautiful to hit, extremely well balanced clubs, and they are long hitters - extremely. Moreover, they are so wonderful on impact, no jarring, instead this splendid soft contact. These are truly magnificent clubs, and in my opinion they will come to dominant the market, maybe not for the professionals but for the handicap players. Be prepared to adjust your yardage for these hybrids, because they are seriously long. For example, today I hit a 6 hybrid on a hole, 156 meters, around 173 yards, uphill, where I normally use a 5, and the ball ended up on the next tee, 2, or 3 clubs lengths back - incredible. They are splendid off the tee as well.
The 9 and 7 hybrid is excellent for chipping but you need to get used to using them first. In short, they will feel a little bulky at first.

Bad Points
Not really any, but you need to carry one conventional iron, I use a 9, when you need a sharper edge, a lighter edge, specifically for some rough play, not all, but other than that, no bad points.

General Comments
The secret to these hybrid irons is to hit down and through, pitching the ball against the ground, and taking a mild divot, even with the 3 hybrid. I have a regular shaft which I think is best with these sold headed clubs. A stiff shaft may be better still, I'm not sure. Another vital point to getting the best out of these magnificent clubs is to allow the club to hit the ball rather that rushing down from the top, or forcing the stroke, because these clubs are so powerfully long. The Cleveland grips are great as well. The hybrid set looks a little different in the bag, odd perhaps, but who cares? Another point worth mentioning is that when hitting off from the tee with these clubs, don't tee up too high, but low enough so that you can still hit down on the ball. The results will surprise you.

When I bought these clubs I was concerned, after a few rounds, that I needed sharper edge clubs approaching the green from 110 meters - around 120 yards - out, but this is not the case, as the wedges do the job very well indeed.

I'm so excited to have these clubs because they are so beautiful to hit and so long. If you don't try these clubs you will be denying yourself a wonderful experience and an opportunity as well.
