We returned from a 3 night weekend stay booked through The Sun Holiday's promotion. My partner and myself had a great time, although from our first evening on site when we sat in the entertainments bar it was clear to us that it was focused around children more than two adults on a weekend break away. Its a lovely clean site though, the staff are welcoming and were very helpful and organised.
The plus points....... Fairly easy to find, first time for me visiting the Torquay area. Clean and tidy site and also a clean and tidy holiday home (2 bedroom). Very quiet location, despite not being too far away from a housing estate. Good level of entertainment and things to do for children on site and a well presented bar area for the adults.
The not so good points....... The bar is expensive for drinks being the only alcohol serving place unless you take a drive down the road. The food is also over priced for what it is, you're better off cooking in your own holiday home or grabbing a bite to eat in Torquay or where my partner and myself spent most of our time in Paignton. You do need a car because you are so far out from the main towns. I'm sure that there was a reliable enough bus service but taxi fares for later in the evening would cost the earth! It is hilly, a small oversight though for such a nicely kept site and I wouldn't dwell on it too much. The food in the main bar was hit and miss, they didn't seem to have anything in, no Southern Fried Chicken meals or Jacket spuds, so a portion of chips each is all we had for tea the first night we were there. Uncomfortable beds...... Take your own sheets, duvets, pillows, etc and use the supplied duvets as cushions under your sheets..... saves alot of backache otherwise you'll feel like you're sleeping on a hospital bed all night.
All in all, we had a great weekend away, it was our once a year weekend break away from 3 children and we made what we could of it. I'm not so sure we'll return there unless we're made an offer that's too good to refuse, mostly thats due to its location more than anything - we'd look more at staying closer to Paignton as its in our eyes the better of the 2 towns. I hope no-one else has to deal with arguing young couples at midnight in the holiday home next door like we did, all a good laugh as neither of us could understand why you'd go on holiday just to argue! If you're already booked up to go then all I can say is be prepared to drive, there aren't any real walks surrounding the site and its expensive to stay on site if you fancy something to eat and a few drinks. For us it was good value for money in the sense that we had a nice clean base to go back to every night.
