Good Points
Always corteous staff, very rarely late flights
Bad Points
Planes beginning to look their age, awards scheme for Mileage Plus not as flexible as it could be.
General Comments
I have flown United since 2000 and racked up a couple of hundred thousand flight miles with them. I have never had a bad flight, but obviously some flights have been better than others. Staff are attentive and polite, but do not tolerate rude behaviour (quite rightly as well). I always book economy class, but have frequently been upgraded on long-haul flights. My only unfortunate experience was flying home from the US (San Fran) prior to Christmas with my 7-month pregnant wife, when the United ground staff wouldn't upgrade her to Business class even though there was space, and operational (i.e. free) upgrades were being arranged. I'd even offered to pay with miles.
Other than that, I am always impressed by their service, and prefer it considerably to British Airways (overpriced), Virgin Atlantic (Club 18-90), and American (really grotty) - all of whom I have had to fly with for one reason or another in the past 5 years.
