“BEWARE BEING SOLD EXTRA WARRANTIES”

We paid a lot of money to buy two reclining 2 seat Italian made sofas just over 3 years ago. After a delay in delivery of a couple of months due to it being in a container on a ship which caught fire - I kid you not - it finally arrived. We were of course not allowed to cancel, despite the fact that DFS had in our eyes failed to deliver on time. However we were relatively happy with our overpriced sofas and had decided to take up the Interest Free Offer and pay over 4 years. I was a bit concerned that something could go wrong with them before we had even finished paying for them, but was reassured when the salesman suggested taking out a 5 year warranty, which we did. Guess what? One of the recliner mechanisms has now broken, we haven't finished paying for it and yes you guessed it the extended warranty doesn't the damage. Turns out it only covers damage to the leather, so it is effectively USELESS. Ok yes I know we should have clarified exactly what was covered in our warranty, but we were effectively MIS-SOLD this warranty. BEWARE of being talked into buying one, or at least make sure you are fully conversant with its terms and conditions. Of course you can imagine DFS's reaction to our problem !!!
