General Comments
I've been using pobox.com for over 8 years (they've been in place for about 10 years). Over the years, I've had pobox forward e-mails to several "end-point" e-mail clients (yahoo, hotmail, gmail). Over that time, I've been able to keep the same "public" e-mail address, while using the backend tool that I prefer (currently gmail).
Also, during this time I've had no issues with availability that I can recall, and have recommended it to several friends. The biggest issues (outlined above) are with the User Interface in the administrative screens not being intuitive (at all). It's as though they are designed by the developer of the code. It makes sense to the developer because they wrote the functions. Also, the inability to manage white lists has frustrated me a couple of times. They support whitelisting, but you can't go back and see/manage a listing of addresses currently on your whitelist after 30 days.
Also, the ability to have one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many e-mail routings defined has been extremely useful. I have accounts setup for my kids to provide 2nd level filtering for their accounts as well.
Bottom line, Pobox provides a primary defense for the increasing level of spam. I continue to be very pleased with their services.
