Nationwide attracted many customers - most like me transferring all their current account business to them - on the basis of the almost unique proposition of not ripping off their customers when withdrawing cash overseas. Sadly they have removed this benefit, replacing it with 'free' holiday insurance of such low quality that it is near useless. 'Upgrades' will exceed the cost of your existing policy, in my experience. They mooted £80 saving applies to joint account holders and isn't my experience; I have a policy that includes kids and sports, and costs £40.
The main point is that Nationwide offered a benefit that took some of the stress and hassle out of planning holidays abroad and have now replaced this with one that does the exact opposite. Most banks are just as bad, it's just sad that Nationwide has overdone them in lack of integrity and loyalty to their customers.
In terms of ease of use, I find Nationwide's internet access easier than was my experience with former bank (Abbey, now Santander). However, it has got more fiddly with the card reading device you have to use for any payment transactions and lack of ability to do online banking when abroad.
