I'm just back from my first trip to Morocco and thought I would share my experiences of this lovely country.
We chose to do a tour as we wanted to see more of the real Morocco and to find out more about it's people and culture. After much searching we decided on a small company called Sahara-magic.com. A family concern of Berber descent. Glad we did, they organised everything for us and all we had to do was go with the flow and enjoy our time there.
We started in Marrakech, a vibrant and bustling city, we enjoyed a tour with a local guide before settling into our Riad. Amazing place a calm and tranquil haven yet in the middle of the Medina.
We set off through the Atlas mountains, Toudra Gorges stopping off at various places on route to Merzouga which was the starting point of our camel trek into the Sahara desert, for me the highlight of the trip. We camped under the shadow of Erg Chebbie in very comfortable Berber style tents, enjoyed good food, traditional music watched the stars in the nightsky before turning in for a well earned rest. A dawn start so us back on the camels and the trek back to the hotel, whilst the sun rose. Magical.
I would recommend this as a way to see Morroco, and would use this company again. Just wish we could have done a longer trip. Maybe next time.
