“I learned that my RWS 34 needed some help before it...”

Written on: 14/09/2008 by HarryW (2 reviews written)

Good Points
A lot of hefty steel and very well machined. Parts fit tightly. Trigger is very crisp and predictable. Excellent power level.

Bad Points
My gun has somewhat dirty internals and a layer of something in the bore.

General Comments
I learned that my RWS 34 needed some help before it was able to perform like it should. First is a thorough disassembly and cleaning of the everything. I found metal bits jammed into the pistol seal and dust on the spring, a big rust patch on the cylinder and so on. The chamber was very try and squeaked. After the cleaning and a couple of drops of chamber oil the whole cocking/firing cycle felt a lot smoother, but the accuracy was poor. The reason was the grease layer in the bore. I ran 20 patches to clean it all out the groups got much better. One more thing was the front sight was mounted off to the left. I had to put in about 1.5 mm windage to compensate.

Now it shoots well with the iron sights with Skenco 8.5 gr lead-free pellets. Probably will do better with lead pellets.
