“Bought this Fiesta 1.4TDCI to replace my wife's...”

written by on 26/08/2010

Bought this Fiesta 1.4TDCI to replace my wife's previous 1.8 non-turbo Fiesta (174,000 trouble-free 52mpg miles).

Mileage was 27,000 and 8 months later at 32,000 miles the power steering rack had to be replaced (£900 inc. a service). At 36,000 miles poor starting and fumes caused by leaking injector seals and a cracked exhaust gas recirculation pipe had to be replaced (£925 inc a service) with a warning that the front discs were worn and with pads would be £225 approx!

Wear on the discs was in fact barely 0.5mm and when I changed the discs and pads courtesy of a Mintex kit at 58,000miles, it cost £38 delivered.

Over the last year we have seen the dreaded "EAC FAIL" warning several times, always after rain or big puddles and limp home mode is not amusing although the car has recovered after a short while after each occurrence.

Fuel consumption is exactly the same as the older 1.8L car was at 52mpg and it is a better driving experience but the maintenance costs and current concerns over reliability of the Electronic Accelerator Control mean that we won't be buying another Fiesta.

Indeed, the unpleasant reception we have received from our local Ford dealer means we shan't be buying another Ford of any sort.
