“The Yamaha FJ700X Maxim X 700 is a wonderful ride,...”

written by netmarcos on 23/02/2007

Good Points
Fast, light, powerful. 5 valve Genesis head design. Great stability and did I mention it was FAST?

Bad Points
Solid lifter design means annual shim replacements. The bike simply would not start in cold weather (maybe the bike was smarter than I was).

General Comments
The Yamaha FJ700X Maxim X 700 is a wonderful ride, good handling. Unbelievable power and torque. With a ~10K Redline and making 96hp and 85ft/lb somewhere around 7-8K RPM, this bike is one impressive machine for short distance (light-to-light) sprints. Handily outperforms most sport racing style bikes in that distance. Top speed around 140 MPH. I had mine over 135 on several occasions with little effort and no handling problems.

I put over 45,000 miles on it and I would gladly buy another if it were available today, but my little brother won't sell it back to me.
