“PGL holidays are run for children aged 7 - 17. I went...”

PGL holidays are run for children aged 7 - 17. I went on a PGL adventure holiday about 4 years ago now, when I was leaving secondary school. It was arranged by the school, and we were going to France, to the Ardeche for 4 days, and then the Med for 3 days, and I absolutely loved every minute!

We went for 9 days in total, including travelling there and back by coach, and it was excellent.

When we arrived we were all tired and particularly smelly (imagine being on a coach for 24 hours with at least 40 other 16 year olds and you'll know what I mean)!! We arrived, and we were all greeted by our PGL reps. However, they didn't let us stay tired for very long, and after five minutes of introductions, they were throwing water all over us to wake us up and get us prepared for the experience and expectations of the 3 days we were spending there!!

It's basically non-stop for the whole time you are there. Being woken up at 7.30am and staying up until 11pm, as they put entertainment on for you and participate in games.

Initially, getting up at 7.30 every day of your holidays isn't appealing, but looking back, it also means that you are making the most of every minute of your holiday.

You travel down the Ardeche river for three days, in canoes with two people in, and you are provided with life jackets which you have to wear at all times, and a safety helmet, which you also have to wear at all times too. You are also taught how to capsize your canoe if need be, and how to get back in, which is hilarious on the first attempt!

Canoeing down the river was brilliant, and there were some breath-taking views, and we had tasks to do at particular sections on the way. From having to stand up in your canoe going down some rapids, having your picture taken going down the rapids, to all getting out of the canoes and taking turns for the current to take you down stream like a slide! Even stopping for lunch was fun; up-turning one canoe and placing out various sandwich fillings on it so we could make our own lunch. Also having to complete a task to get your bread! And also from telling a good joke to answering a trivia question!

The night entertainment was also brilliant, and it always involved people out of our group, so you're guaranteed to all feel involved and able to participate in the evening. The funniest night was the lads beauty contest. Each group of girls is allocated a lad to dress up as a girl, and they have to perform, and I'm very proud to say our groups boy was crowned Miss Ardeche 2002!

After we successfully completed canoeing the entirely of the Ardeche river, we all packed up and hopped back on the coach for the next part of our adventure. The Med offered the most relaxing part of the holiday. I say relaxing, but it still involved banana boats (the funniest), catamarans (the scariest), wind-surfing (my favourite) and climbing walls (the most challenging)! But you will still have an opportunity for a sunbathe here and there.

I defiantly preferred the Ardeche to the Med. Not only was it the most action-packed part of the holiday, but the complex at Ardeche was smaller, so the reps got to know you more, and I feel they were more enthusiastic and passionate about what they were doing, therefore making you want to join in more.

Overall, I think anybody who is in two minds about going on a PGL holiday should go! You're guaranteed to have a good time, and the memories of the holiday will last a long time after you arrive home. You will have the chance to try so many things that you've never done before, and it may never be likely you will do them again, and it is all jam-packed in to one holiday! I can not recommend it enough! It's a great experience for anyone! 10/10!
