“Was not expecting to enjoy this break because of the...”

Was not expecting to enjoy this break because of the terrible reviews and had a brilliant time. I think it depends on what you expect, if this is your only holiday all year and you have the money to choose somewhere abit posher then do it. But if you want a cheap break which is brilliant for kids (my daughter 3) and brilliant beach walking distance (sandy and rock pools) then go. Good indoor playground to for up to eight yrs old. The chalets are not spotless and are old fashioned, you feel like you want to keep your slippers on. It does look like a prisoner of war camp. I went with the attitude that its got to be cleaner and better equiped than camping at nearly the same price so tried tokeep low expectations. Took bleach and spray but didnt have to use, would take again though just in case. Some familys look like they are from shameless but most are normal. Took own dvd player. Dont forget the lead from dvd player to the telly and an adaptor plug in case only one socket. Took own microwave but didnt use it. shop on site ok but cheaper one if you turn left at gates on right hand side of road, walkable. We paid electic seperately -£7 for three nights, lots of baths and cooking though and heating on as this was feb. they sell £5 electric cards at desk but you can get £1 ones at security which you can cash back if you dont use. Check the notice board by the doors into the main reception as to whats on when because the hand outs they give you are not always accurate, we nearly missed scooby doo. going back for another short break, pontins rang us and offered £80 for three nights in may because we have been before, and looked on website and its a really good deal. You can book at reception before you leave if you want to come back, it might be worth enquiring because you might be able to get a good deal. I thought they had tricked us but my friend tried to book and it was twice the price. Liked the fact that the resturant was in the pub so didnt feel too canteeny, ok prices too. Also re booking in queue, booking opens at 4pm (unless you paid more) dont join the 1 mile long queue, go in the arcade or for an explore and wait until about 5.20pm and there will be about 1 person in front of you (that was feb) the chalets are all allocated before you get there anyway. We didnt get to Pontins until 4pm on the first day but you can use the activities all day so if you want to make the most of it get there early, there is a welcome meeting at 2pm which we missed.
