The AA helped me a lot when I was in trouble a few months ago, when I tried to start the car in Aberdeen. I phoned the AA and told the the situation and the symptoms of my car. I also told them that the car I was driving in was my new car since a few weeks and I had not told the AA yet of this change of circumstances. That didn't seem to be a problem at all.
It did take a good 45 minutes before the AA van arrived, but the problem was sorted out there and then.
Because I didn't ensure myself for the full package, I did have to pay for the parts (+ discount). but I didn't have to pay for the actual service, time, etc. I also had the choice to take the car to the garage, but - knowing my luck - I wasn't going to risk another breakdown and a higher bill. A garage probably would have asked for £100 or £200 (including service etc). The AA only asked £65 for the battery.
So after 15 minutes the problem was solved and I could go home.
I recommened the AA to anyone. They are a bit pricy after the first year's discounted fee, but you get your money's worth.
