“An excellent unit let down by poor instructions and...”

Good Points
Excellent, once you've mastered it, but this is not quick and it's not easy. It's quick to link to satellites, gives instructions at just the right time and the 3D or 2D map gives good picture of the road immediately ahead. The bright easy to read 3.5" screen is just right size, although some might be prepared to accept a 2.7" screen to get an even smaller model.

Bad Points
The Quick Guide is badly designed. The Map manual referred to in the Quick Manual is not in the box or on the DVD. It is necessary to download it from the website but you are not told this. The supplied program for copying European maps to SD or flash memory works only partially. You can copy to flash but there is room only for one country, e.g. France. The button to transfer to an SD card does not give the required result and it is necessary to find other means of doing this. Strangely, the software for copying JPG and MP3 files to SD card works beautifully and it is possible to tweak this program to copy the map files, although it is simpler to use a card reader/writer. You need some technical expertise to do this and Mitac's support is non-existent. This has been the experience of other reviewers too.

General Comments
An excellent unit let down by poor instructions and absolutely appalling level of support from Mitac. The provision of street level maps for 24 countries makes this very good value for anyone with the necessary technical expertise to load the maps into the unit. Unfortunately, 95% of people do not have this skill. If you're one of the 5%, this is a good buy. If you're not, don't even think about it. You will be on your own. Mitac will be no help at all. This is why I could not recommend it to my friends and why I have given it a mediocre overall rating.
