The restaurant has moved from the "shack" and the new premises are very nice.

This was my first time visiting Momma Cherrie's and sadly it will probably be my last.

I arrived at lunchtime to be told that there was only soul in a bowl on offer or the items (approx 6) on the lunchtime menu. Owing to the fact that you needed a minimum of 2 people for the bowl, I opted for the fried chicken which came with 3 fried drumsticks, curly fries and salad (£6.95). Decent Portion. It was very evident that the chicken was not fried fresh as it clearly had a chewy texture and had no flavour whatsoever. I can spot fresh fried chicken from a mile. The curly fries screamed of the Iceland frozen variety and were as salty as hell. The side salad was pleasant enough.

For dessert I chose peach cobbler. Big mistake. I have been to America on numerous occasions and have always been impressed with their peach cobbler. What arrived looked to be peach crumble but the crumble was of a stale chewy (cooked last night) texture. It was served on a nice plate with some fruits of the forest type sauce and a very meagre portion of ice cream and a squirt of cream. Cobbler is supposed to be a crumbly scone texture or it should physically have scones on top. I don't know what I got served.

I saw a couple next to me having the soul in a bowl. I think they were given nachos with sour cream to start and then later tiny portions of spare ribs, fried chicken, fried wings, chili con carne, salad, succotash, sweet potato salad. The food looked okay but I didn't feel like I was cheated as their food looked rather uninspiring.

The bill came to £14.06 with a diet Pepsi and that included service charge which I thought was a bit premature of them. There is a waitress there who was absolutely first class and very attentive indeed with EVERYONE and if it was down to me I would have given a bigger tip.

As I was leaving I saw a group of American women arrive at the door looking ready to eat. I hope they weren't disappointed as much as I was.

The food wasn't terrible, it's just that it was very generic and certainly wasn't worth a trip from London for. There are some fabulous restaurants around Brighton and I really feel like I did myself a disservice going to Momma Cherrie's.
