“I was mis-sold my motorhome insurance policy by...”

I was mis-sold my motorhome insurance policy by Sureterm Direct. I recommend you do NOT do business with this company.

During the initial call the salesman aggressively chased my business and didn't seem to listen to what I needed. He was only interested in signing me up. But the policy seemed good, and I was assured everything was covered - including cover for wife to drive. She is from overseas and has held a license for 10 years. So I went ahead and bought the cover.

Halfway through the year, I found out that my wife was in fact not covered - because under UK law, after 2 years residency you must convert your overseas license to a UK license. According to Sureterm this then makes her a "new driver" (despite 10 years driving experience in Europe, the UK and the USA) and therefore she was not covered. But I'd explicitly mentioned the fact that she was Brazilian, and would need to get a UK license when I bought the the policy.

I complained but was told that there was nothing they could do and that she would not be covered under the policy, even if I paid an extra premium. I was furious and explained that I had mentioned all this on the initial call. But basically they called me a liar - so I was requested a transcript of the initial call, for which they charged me 10 pounds.

After 3 weeks I'd still received no transcripts, but I did finally receive a letter, saying that I was correct and that I had been clear about what I needed in the initial call. Instead of offering to provide the cover they'd originally sold me, all they offered was the option to cancel the policy "with no early-cancellation penalty". Thanks - but no thanks.

Never again. Avoid Sureterm Direct at all costs.
