General Comments
I bought my VW Golf 1.6SE brand new in 2006, added optional extras such as glass roof and fog lights, and had to wait for 3 months for it to be delivered from Germany, as not many golfs have glass roofs. In the first 6 months the car drove well, but then the passenger side door locked itself and I had to take it to the dealer to get it sorted out (apparently the cable inside got stuck!) Then a year later there's noise from the clutch everytime I change gear, more so when I changed from 3rd to 4th, and from 4th to 5th at 60 - 80 miles /hr, that was really annoying and worrying so I had to take it to the garage. Apparently it's to do with the coil and that has not been sorted out yet. I have now done 50,000 miles and last week the clutch judder so I took it to the VW dealer, and they said that I needed a new clutch which will cost me £650 for parts plus £50 per hour for labour, so I guess it will cost me £850-£900! I cannot believe this as I have only had the car for 2 years, mainly motorway driving, always change to neutral gear at traffic lights, and because the clutch is wearing out so I am not under the 3 year warranty for that. I think I will take it to another dealer to get that checked because I cannot believe VW golf can be of that poor quality. Does anyone have similar experience? I was told by my friend that the noise from the clutch might come from the firewheel, in that case I can have it sorted without charge as that is under the 3-year warranty. Any comments or suggestions will be very helpful as being a single woman I don't know much about cars and I don't want to get ripped off. Many thanks!
