After reading the mixed reviews I was a little hesitant about going but liked the location so decided to give it a try. It was a busy Sunday afternoon about 4pm. We didn't have to wait for a table and the food was served promptly by very pleasant staff. The bar staff were also very friendly, which was not what I expected from the reviews. The Sunday roast was the best I have had at any pub anywhere around the Bolton area, nice pink beef with not over cooked veg with a huge yorksire pud- yum! The atmosphere was buzzing and we had our little Cavapoo with us sat under the table and we were made to feel most welcome. I would definitely return and definitely recommend this pub. It reminds me of a typical walker's pub with good wholesome food that you would expect to get in The Lakes. Fab position with great walks nearby. So if you like walking, maybe are looking for somewhere that's dog friendly, like an old fashioned pub atmosphere with good pub/gastro food this is the place for you. The only thing I didn't like was the bread and butter pudding. It was soggy on top and too stodgy. Please tell the chef it should be crispy on the top, ( I am a bit of a pudding expert and make a mean one myself) with more fruit and a lot lighter. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent.
