“A few weeks ago I sent off my mobile to...”

written by on 04/10/2009

A few weeks ago I sent off my mobile to envirofone.com, which was an LG KS360, expecting a full payment of £18.45, which already I didn't think was a good trade, however I couldn't sell it any other way so went ahead anyway.

After being sent an email claiming my phone had water damage, I then had the option to accept a payment of £12.92 or have my phone returned, but after I failed to respond to the email within 5 days, envirofone automatically accepted the new payment to be sent.

Envirofone never informed me how they had found the water damage until i sent a futher email asking for an explanation. They did reply with one, and said the disc in the back of the phone, which every phone has, had turned red, meaning it had been in contact with water or condensation or steam, however I failed to understand this as in the less than 12 months I had owned the phone, it had NEVER been in contact with water, condensation or steam that could damage it. The phone was working fine when I sent it off, as I charged it fully for them ready to test and trade in. The email they replied to also explained how they couldn't re-test my phone despite my claiming the water damage couldn't possibly be true, as the payment had already gone through with the phone so there wasn't much else I could do.

The positive point I have for envirofone.com is that their communication with customers during trading; though the details of problems could be improved, is quite good when it comes to being kept updated about all the different stages taking place, such as recieveing the phone and testing.

However I do also think that their advert is mis-leading as they claim to pay £250 for some mobiles, but this is only for brand new phones such as the Apple Iphone 32GB, and not phones people would most commonly want to trade in.

Envirofone's terms and conditions also state; 'Envirofone will not accept responsibility for the security, protection, confidentiality or use of such data.' Personally I feel that, that statement is very irresponisble and unfair to imply any media left on the phone, even by mistake, could be used to their's or anyone else's advantage.

Over all my experience with envirofone.com proved to be a bad one, with my phone being traded in for a bad cash payment and me left feeling badly treated and robbed with false claims about my phone having water damage.
