“Car provided was smaller than I booked - Antalya, Turkey”

written by richcow on 30/01/2017

This relates to a booking in Aug-Sept 2015 but just found this link to rate Atlaschoice. Doing so now because they never gave me a satisfactory response to my complaint - they just fobbed my off with a response from their partner in Turkey.

I booked a Peugeot 301 or similar (intermediate class, two large and two small suitcases) but I received a Renault Symbol (compact class, one large and two small suitcases). I had no choice but to accept that car because I was told it was the only car available. When back in the UK I requested a refund for the extra money I paid to Atlaschoice at the time of booking for the larger car.

Received a generic response from Atlaschoice in which they just forwarded the reply from their partner in Antalya, who said that the Peugeot 301 and Renault Symbol were the same class of car, with same luggage capacity, and therefore no refund was possible.

I replied to Atlaschoice asking for their opinion on their partner's response.

I queried that the Atlas Choice website suggested that the partner's reply was incorrect. The Atlas Choice website clearly stated that the 'Peugeot 301 or similar' is an 'intermediate class' with a luggage capacity of two large and two small suitcases. In contrast the Renault Symbol is a 'compact class' with a luggage capacity of one large and two small suitcases.

If Atlas Choice's partner was correct in its response - that I received the same category of car as was booked (booked by Atlas Choice on my behalf) - then the Atlas Choice website was misleading.

I argued that the Atlaschoice website had misrepresented the categories of car and caused me to pay a higher price for an intermediate class of car with a larger luggage capacity but Atlas Choice only booked for me a CDMR sip code class car, according to its partner.

I specifically wanted an intermediate class car with a larger luggage capacity and a paid more for it, however, I only received a compact class car, which I could have booked at a lower cost had that been the class of car and the size of luggage capacity that I wanted.

In reply from Atlaschoice I received exactly the same generic response forwarding the response from the partner in Antalya, who unsurprisingly repeated that the car categories were the same.

And then in fairness Atlaschoice offered me a discount code for my next booking as a goodwill gesture but that would entail me giving even more money to a company that, at worst, potentially misrepresented and overcharged me, and, at best, has ropey customer service.
